Kiss for the Road (first draft)

There's nothing like that first time feeling
Sitting in the back of your truck,
We kissed and laughed and talked for hours,
Until the morning sun came up.

And when you dropped me at my front door,
Your lips were smooth upon my cheek.
You said, "I'd love to stay forever,
But can you do something for me?

Can I get a kiss for the road,
to carry me home
until the next time?
And even though it may not show
I want you to know,
you'll always be mine.
But I've gotta go,
so can I get a kiss for the road?"

I slide your ring upon your finger,
Then you put your hands in mine.
It's just one night, I tell myself but
I can't sleep without you, at night.

Your bag is packed, your tank is full, now
All that is left is just the drive.
And right before you pull away, you
lean out with your goofy smile,

Can I get a kiss for the road,
to carry me home
until the next time?
And even though it may not show
I want you to know,
you'll always be mine.
But I've gotta go,
so can I get a kiss for the road?"

Everything is packed up in boxes
Our world split, marked "yours" & mine
And you're just standing in the doorway
I ask you, for the last time,

"Can I get a kiss for the road
to carry me home?
Baby, just one more time.
And even though it may not show,
I want you to know,
You'll always be mine,
But I've gotta go.
Can I get a kiss for the road?"

Baby, I've gotta go...
But can I get a kiss for the road?
